Appey, who was also state Unduk Ngadau 2009, will represent Malaysia in the Miss Earth 2010 pageant in Nha Trang Vietnam in October.
“I did not expect to win this beauty pageant because all the contestants were beautiful and well trained.
“I am happy winning the title and thanks to Mandy Nandu who taught me many things, beginning at state level until this stage, said Appey, who spoke in fluent English, Malay and Kadazan.
According to Appey when contacted by The Borneo Post through the phone yesterday, she learned many things, especially during the adventure activities while staying at the resorts in Taiping.
“The resorts are surrounded by green nature, a secondary forest and waterfalls. We got the chance to study nature.
“During the pageant week we also did tree planting, painted a railway station, visited a charcoal factory, a water factory and visited an orphanage home,” said Appey who is currently studying at the Asian Tourism Institute (ATI) College.
After two weeks of tiring competition, Appey just wants to get home and share her joys with both her parents, Januin Abdon Jumani and Adeline Anus, and also with boyfriend and friends who gave their non-stop support since the state level Miss Earth competition began.
Soft spoken and full of confidence, the second child in four siblings and called Fifi, Appey also grabbed two subsidiary titles during the competition, namely Miss Tropica Beauty and Miss Charming Look.
Two other contestants from Sabah, May Salitah Naru Kiob and Queennera Francine Francis Kitingan did not disappoint the state by winning subsidiary titles at the beauty pageant.
May Salitah won Miss Body Beautiful and Miss Audience Favourite while Queennera took home Miss Best in Talent and Miss Summer Look.
Their trainer, who was the Miss Earth Malaysia 2009 Mandy Nandu, shared her happiness with fans and friends through her official Facebook page and thanked all supporters who gave them the courage and confidence from the beginning at state level competition until the finals at the national level.
“Three of them (contestants from Sabah) are all amazing. I am so proud with each and every one of them.
“Congratulations to all of you and let us keep our spirits going, especially in creating environmental awareness among ourselves and the people around us,” she said.
