Kota Kinabalu: Sabah won the Miss Borneo Tourism Queen title for the second consecutive time when Elaine Audrey Lee mesmerised the judges to beat other aspirants at the grand finals in Hyatt Regency Kinabalu here Friday.
Elaine, 18, also won the Best Talent subsidiary title.
Also present at the gala night was Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun, and Japanese Consul General, Kazuyoshi Yamaguchi.
Kuching’s Janet Bennet, 20, was first-runner up, while her Sarawak counterpart from Miri, Marlene Lim, 26, was second runner-up.
Janet, who stands at 182cm and aspires to be a lawyer, also took away the prizes for Miss Elegant and Miss Photogenic, while Marlene was Miss Congeniality.
Subsidiary titles for Miss Charity, Miss Popular and Nature’s Guardian went to Chloe Lee Mei Tchuin, 22, from Kota Kinabalu, while Priscilla Stephen, 21, from Kuching, garnered the Miss Friendly title.
For her feat, Elaine won RM3,000 cash prize and the custom-designed crown worth RM25,000 along with a trophy, a sash and sponsored prizes.
She would also represent Borneo in the Miss Tourism Queen International Pageant in Guangzhou, China in September.
Janet and Marlene won RM2,000 and RM1,000 cash respectively along with a trophy, a sash and sponsored prizes while subsidiary title holders were given a sash and a trophy.
The gala night marked the climax of a tough pageant week where the finalists from Sabah and Sarawak participated in various activities to learn, understand and embrace Borneo.
