Gracefully poised with brains to match, Olivia Vun Kai Li was crowned Miss Earth Sabah 2011.
The 19 year old beat 11 other finalists with her impressive command of environmental issues, coupled with looks that made her among the crowd favourite.
A pre-university matriculation graduate here, Vun had also won a subsidiary title, Miss Eco-Brainy Agro-Ecologic, prior to the final held at the 1Borneo Grand Ballroom.
Vun bagged a cash prize of RM6,000, tiara and trophy.
Runner-up was Kieren Laurent Simon while Crystel Eve Huminodun Majinbon and Venessa Samantha Maniwas were placed third and fourth. They were also awarded the titles of Miss Earth Sabah-Air, Miss Earth Sabah-Water and Miss Earth Sabah-Fire respectively.
The top three winners will represent the state at the Miss Earth Malaysia 2011 pageant to be held in Ipoh, Perak later this month.
The previous two national titles have been consecutively won by Sabahans — Madelyne Nandu and Appey Rowena Januin.
Vun said the win was unexpected.
“I was shocked because there were so many contestants with potential. This is my first time entering a beauty pageant, so of course I never expected to win.”
On her plans, Vun said she had received a scholarship to study overseas.
“I have not decided on pursuing my studies though,” she said, adding that her initial plan was to take up a degree in special education.
