RANCHO MIRAGE — They’ve spent years raising their families and doing their best to serve as positive role models for their communities across the globe. And on Saturday 18th August, 40 mothers and wives from around the globe gathered in Rancho Mirage to see which one of them was the best of the best.
Walking up and down a stage, they competed in the 2012 Mrs. Globe pageant at Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa.
“Most of our women are married with children,” said Tracy Kemble, president and founder of the WIN Foundation. “You have women juggling their family life and still volunteering.”
Anna Schapnova of Ukraine was crowned Mrs. Globe 2012, while Nevada resident Lilian Aguilar was crowned Mrs. Globe US 2012 and will represent her country in next year’s international pageant.
Proceeds from the event go to the foundation, a Newport Beach-based but international organization dedicated to empowering women and raising awareness across the planet.
Kemble was Mrs. Globe in 1996. Contestants represented countries ranging from the United States and Bulgaria to South Africa and Malaysia.
As the pageant started, contestants came onto the stage one by one bearing their respective nation’s flag. They first marched behind each other in a small parade before introducing themselves, many in their native languages.
As upbeat music played, the crowd cheered for each contestant.
“They get a lot of motivation from that energy,” Master of Ceremonies Dusty Simington told the crowd in an effort to encourage even more positive feedback.
