A STUDENT from Ipoh, Teng Mei Xian, 22, was announced as the winner of Miss Malaysia International 2012 at a Press conference on Tuesday at The Prince Hotel & Residences in Kuala Lumpur.
Teng, also a part-time model, who beat more than 25 contestants, will be representing Malaysia at the 52nd Miss International 2012 beauty pageant on Oct 21 in Okinawa, Japan.
ERM Marketing Sdn. Bhd. Managing Director, Mr. Alex Liu said they were hopeful that the winner would do the country proud.
“We are sure she will be able to promote Malaysian tourism and present the best of Malaysia and foster friendship among all the participating countries,” he said.
ERM Marketing Sdn. Bhd. is the license holder for Miss International Pageant for Malaysia since 1999.
“It’s an honour to represent my country and I’ll try my best to promote the uniqueness of Malaysia such as culture, tourism and local cuisine to the world,” said Teng.
The four runner-ups were Pinky Tan, 20, from Teluk Intan, Perak, Berry Ong, 19, from
Sitiawan, Perak, Ong Kai Sun, 21, also from Sitiawan, and Carrey Gan, 18, from KL.
The Press conference was presided by Miss Malaysia International 2012 and 2013 national producer and director Lee Fukada, ERM Holding Chairman Mr. Alex Liu and its Malaysia Marketing Director Mr. Sean Chia, and Prince Hotel & Residences KL General Manager Tim Quarm.
Miss International was begun in 1960 at Long Beach, California, where it was staged until 1967, before moving to Japan from 1968 to 1970 to commemorate the Osaka World Expo and this led to it being staged in Japan every year from 1972 onwards.
