A record number of 93contestants are expected for this year’s competition, the highest ever for the third most important beauty pageant in the planet. During the past days, beauties from all over the globe have arrived in Chengdu for the 51st edition of the Miss International contest, which started in Long Beach, California, in 1960.
Chengdu plays host for the pageant for third consecutive time. The event, which was usually held in Japan, started to travel to different venues in 2004. It was held in China in 2004 and 2006; in 2008 it travelled to the Venetian Resort in Macau. In 2009, it made Chengdu, located in the province of Sichuan, its permanent home.
No pageant is complete without the usual array of ‘favorites’, those girls favored to have the qualities needed to win the crown. Delegates from Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Philippines, Mexico, Tahiti, Canada and Venezuela are among the strongest this year. However, the contest is just starting and the official activities could reveal some surprises!
This year Miss Malaysia International 2011 is represented by Miss Phong Sze Ling, 21 years old Beautician from Ipoh.
